How Crafting Works in Scavland

A workbench is cheaper than a new rifle. A dirty rifle is a firework.

Crafting and Repair

Scavland lists a crafting system, repair, and weapon maintenance next to looting and traders. That is not flavour. Guns jam. Badly kept weapons can cook off into scrap. Cleaning kits work in the field; workbenches and rest areas are faster. This page is how to keep a kit alive. Read combat for the jam itself and traders for the stall that feeds the bench.

NoShadow has not published a public recipe book with every component. Early Access will add more recipes during the 12–24 month window. Treat this as a method, not a spreadsheet.

Repair is the first craft

Before you dream about attachments, keep the gun you have:

  • Cleaning kits are multi-purpose. Creators call them a must for any Vulture. Use them anywhere. They go faster at a workbench or a rest area.
  • Condition is a combat stat. A pristine AK-pattern rifle is not the same gun as a dirty copy. See the weapon tier list.
  • Jams happen mid-fight. Worst case, the weapon becomes scrap. That is a crafting problem wearing a bullet.

Getting Started already told you not to vendor the kit that keeps the rifle alive. This page is why.

Workbenches, rest areas, field kits

Field repair exists so a hatch does not end because you were proud. Town benches exist so you stop paying that tax. If a settlement hates you, the bench gets more expensive in the only way that matters: you have to walk farther. Reputation is access to tools, not only unique barrels.

Do not strip a working S-tier rifle in a doorway to install a sight you do not understand. Builds starts with a magazine you can feed, then a sight you can read, then vanity.

What crafting is for

Steam groups crafting with looting, traders, and contracts. Practical uses:

  • Keep weapons firing
  • Turn junk into something the stall will not replace cheaper
  • Feed jobs that want a specific object
  • Stretch a small backpack. A bigger pack is often a mission carrot, not a default

If a recipe costs a walk that is longer than a hatch, buy the finished item from a trader instead. Crafting is not a religion.

Loot that is actually a material

Demo footage treated mutant parts, cloth, and scrap as vendor weight. Some of that will be a recipe input after launch. Until a patch names the list, follow this order:

  1. Keep cleaning kits, meds, food, matching ammo
  2. Keep one extra magazine that fits the primary
  3. Keep quest objects. Jobs will not forgive a vendor click
  4. Sell duplicate broken pistols and decorative rags
  5. Park rare parts in town before a hatch

Starting loadout is the day-one version of this list. Survival is why food still beats a spare grip.

Attachments are crafting by another name

300+ parts: stocks, magazines, optics, muzzles, grips. You find them in the world and in bunkers. You do not need a meta tree on day one. You need a gun that fires. Specialise after you can walk home.

If a ranked shop row is a magazine you cannot loot, that is reputation doing the craft for you. Handshake first, gunsmith second.

What will grow after Act I

The roadmap promises more recipes, equipment, and points of interest across Act II and Act III. Do not skip a working bench in Act I because a later act might add a prettier canteen. Early Access on 4 September 2026 is the first kit, not the last.

Official numbers live on Steam. This wiki will name recipes when players can screenshot them. Until then, clean the rifle, feed the rifle, and let the vendor keep the fireworks.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I repair weapons in Scavland?

Use a cleaning kit in the field, or repair faster at a workbench or rest area. Dirty guns jam and can become scrap. See combat.

Is there a full crafting list?

Not in public store copy. Early Access will add recipes over time. Keep kits and matching parts; do not hoard every rag.

Should I craft or buy?

Buy if the stall is cheaper than the walk. Craft to keep a gun alive. Traders are part of the same loop.

Do attachments count as crafting?

They are the customisation layer. Read builds after the gun is reliable.
