Scavland Day One Patch

v0.5.169 — Explorer Mode, campfire healing, and balance fixes.

Last updated:

Day One Patch (v0.5.169)

The Day One Patch (v0.5.169) deployed on 5 September 2026 by developer Lucasmml. It arrived alongside a balance patch (Build 25128670) on 4 September. This page covers both.

Explorer Mode

A new accessibility mode designed for players focused on exploration over survival tension:

  • Lower death penalties — dying no longer punishes as hard in a single run
  • Recommended for first playthroughs, map learning, and players who want a less brutal entry curve
  • Does not remove survival mechanics; hunger, radiation, and the Mist still demand attention
  • Campfire Healing works particularly well in this mode, letting players recuperate at rest points without returning to base

Campfire Healing

Resting at campfires now actively restores health. This was one of the most-requested features in the early access launch window:

  • Find a campfire in the overworld or bunker safe rooms
  • Rest to trigger passive health regeneration
  • Works alongside the doubled stamina pool for extended exploration runs
  • Dehydration and hunger still need managing — a campfire does not replace food and water

Inventory and Stamina Buffs

Quality-of-life improvements that directly address early-game friction:

  • Doubled base stash size: Shared storage capacity has been doubled. Players can now store more loot between runs without choosing as ruthlessly.
  • Doubled maximum stamina: Endurance has been doubled, allowing longer movement between safe points and more margin for error in hostile territory.
  • These changes were explicitly added to ease the early difficulty curve flagged by the community within hours of launch

New Medical Blueprint

A crafting recipe specifically for the dehydration debuff was added:

  • Addresses a known pain point where dehydration had limited counterplay beyond finding specific items
  • Craftable with materials available in the Act I region
  • Check the crafting page for full recipe details once verified in-game

Balance Patch (Build 25128670, 4 September)

NoShadow pushed initial Day 1 balance adjustments alongside the launch:

  • Enemy LoS tuning: AI no longer detects players through dense, non-transparent foliage and barricades. Previously, dense cover could still result in unfair engagements.
  • Item hover responsiveness: Tooltip delay reduced from 0.25s to 0.125s for snappier inventory sorting during loot runs.
  • Negative currency fix: An edge-case barter calculation that could cause bank balances to underflow into negative numbers was patched.
  • Container highlights: Enhanced subtle outline glow for scavenge containers in pitch-black interiors and underground bunkers.
  • Trader balance: Nadja’s daily screw stockpile increased. Mosin-Nagant 03 removed from Sasha’s Level 0 stock to preserve early weapon tier progression. Volodymyr remains the primary zero-reputation supply bridge.

Known Issues

NoShadow has acknowledged the following are under active development:

  • Simplified Chinese localization quality fixes in progress
  • Shotgun excessive bleeding trigger capped to 1 stack per blast (applied in the June v0.2.4.1 playtest patch but confirmed still being monitored)

Neither of these should block a purchase decision but are worth knowing before a long session.

How this affects guides

Explorer Mode and campfire healing change how survival pacing works in Act I. The survival guide will be updated to reflect these mechanics. Getting Started will note Explorer Mode as an option for new players. Death page will be updated to note the reduced penalty in Explorer Mode.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is Explorer Mode in Scavland?

A mode added in the Day One Patch with lower death penalties, designed for players who want to focus on map exploration without the full hardcore survival penalty on each run.

How does campfire healing work?

Resting at campfires now restores health passively. It does not remove hunger or dehydration — those still need managing separately.

What was in the Day One balance patch?

Enemy line-of-sight fixes in foliage, faster item tooltips (0.25s to 0.125s), negative currency bug fix, container highlight improvements, and trader adjustments (Nadja screws up, Mosin removed from Sasha Level 0).

Are there any remaining known issues?

Simplified Chinese localization fixes and shotgun excessive bleeding are acknowledged by NoShadow and under active development.
